Faye Ocomen, LCSW
I'm passionate about helping people
My career has taken me from the streets of the Tenderloin working with the homeless and disenfranchised to the boroughs of London supporting children and families in the foster care system. I've worked with Asian Americans recover from traumatic and chaotic lives to find meaning and community. From that work I found inspiration in people's ability to be resilient and heal when they have a supportive and nurturing environment.
I am also inspired by my clients whose family immigrated to the US to find their "American dream". My family did too. I understand the subtle, and unsubtle, pressure to live up to family expectations and the "complexities" of straddling two (sometimes more) cultures.
Both my personal and professional experiences inform the therapeutic space I strive to create for my clients. I weave culture, family of origin, and the "here & now" in our sessions so that you feel heard and seen. Somewhere along the way to adulthood we've received the message, and been conditioned, to hide and keep secret many aspects of ourselves. As a result, we feel alone, disconnected, and/or stagnant. I work collaboratively with my clients to find fulfillment and purpose in their lives, to search their souls about what they need and expect from their relationships, and find their power/strength to communicate with authenticity.
